The Arc of Wichita County’s Fellowship and Adventure Program serves over 50 individuals with disabilities. Each week we get our friends together for activities such as sporting events, painting nights, bingo, dances, community events and trips to the DFW area. There is such importance for social needs to be met, and through our Fellowship and Adventure Program, people are able to create friendships and memories that better their lives. Check out our calendar for activities happening this week and call The Arc at 940-692-2303 to RSVP today!
The Arc of Wichita County sponsors People First, a self-advocacy group for individuals ages 18 and up with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Self-advocacy refers to an individual’s ability to effectively communicate, convey, negotiate or assert his or her own interests, desires needs, and rights. People First is associated with Texas Advocates and our local chapter is the largest in the state of Texas.
Each month our members meet for a social or educational event and our board made up of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities meets to discuss finances. Every year People First runs a service project and visits state representatives in Austin to discuss rights and laws supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Arc has hosted Camp Noah for over 20 years. Camp Noah is a summer day camp offered to children with intellectual and developmental disabilities from ages 3 to 21. Each summer, Camp Noah runs for two weeks and children may attend for one or both weeks. Our aim is to create a true summer camp atmosphere with tons of fun activities. Our trained staff assists children to have the greatest experience possible. Children are placed with a compatible group of children with similar needs to ensure each child receives the love and care they need. Lunch and snacks are provided.
Camper Applications are available in April and will be processed in a first come first serve basis.
Camp Harmony is the summer day camp for individuals ages 15 and up with intellectual and developmental disabilities hosted by The Arc of Wichita County. For years, hundreds of adults have been able to experience a true summer camp experience! There is no charge for Camp Harmony thanks to our local sponsors. For the summer of 2016, there will be two weeks of camp full of fun activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, dancing g lessons and bingo! Be sure to book your spot in May!
We are extremely grateful for the community support of Camp Noah and Camp Harmony.
Below are our 2016 sponsors, without which our summer camps would not be possible!
